ATHLETES RACE TO BOOK SPOT AT THE REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Athletics Kenya (AK) Nyanza North athletes will this Saturday be battling it out to pick the elite squad to represent the counties at the regional championships.

The region’s counties track and field athletics championship is to be held at different venues in the three counties of Kisumu, Siaya and Homabay.

In Kisumu County, the championship will be held at Moi Stadium while for Homa Bay and Siaya Counties, they will be staged at Mawego Technical Training Institute and Siaya Medical Training College respectively.

Two top athletes in every category will qualify for the subsequent regional meet at Moi Stadium, Kisumu on the first weekend of June.
AK Nyanza North Communication Officer Jared Gilo said that they expect more than one hundred runners to battle for a place in the regional competition.

The championship will have both the senior and junior categories with much focus on the junior category owing to the upcoming World Under-20 Championships.

Emphasizing the importance, Gilo said it will be used to select the under 20 team at the nationals to represent Kenya in the World Under-20 Championship in Finland in the month of July.
