Native team is best poised to take home the title for this year’s Kisumu County Basketball League (KCBL) set for this weekend at Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground.
The first runners-up in two consecutive years now, 2016 and 2017 have increased chances following the absence of the 2017 defending champions, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) Suns.
JOOUSTS’ suns is on a recess with most of their players not available for the tourney.
Natives could however face stiff competition after the entry of four new teams into the annual tournament making it the most competitive since its inception in 2015.
The new teams are; Maranda School (Siaya), Maseno University (Kisumu), Bay Lakers (Homa Bay) and Vipers (Kisii) which brings to eleven the number of participants that will battle it out for this year’s title; an increase from last year’s seven teams.
Teams likely to challenge natives include; 2017 Biro Lich Basketball Tournament first runners up Team Wazee and Kisumu All-Stars that topped last year’s regular season on 19 points.
Top form Kisii University’s vipers are sure to also present a headache to the other teams.
